Concert at KH: Linarol Consort of Viols with Héloïse Bernard – Saturday 14th May, 7.15pm

Epitaph for a Green Lover: music from the song books of Marguerite of Austria.

Performance by The Linarol Consort of Viols (Alison Kinder, Claire Horacek, Timothy Lin and David Hatcher), with Heloise Bernard, soprano.

Tickets (£12, students £6) from www.ticketsource.co.uk/linarolconsort or on the door.

Soprano Héloïse Bernard joins the Linarol Consort of Viols in a programme of sublime music from the manuscripts of one of the greatest female patrons of the arts: Marguerite of Austria (1480-1530).

The title comes from the remarkable chanson Soubz ce tumbel, with its tragic text by Marguerite’s court poet, Jean Lemaire, taken from his Epitaphe de l’Amant Vert, in which the Green Lover refers to Marguerite’s beloved green parrot.

The programme comprises songs and instrumental music, played on copies of viols of the time, from Marguerite’s own collection, which included three books of chansons and an exquisitely decorated book of basse dances.

Lucia Ensemble – Sankta Lucia, 10th December 2021 at 7.30pm

Lucia Ensemble warmly invite you to their upcoming concert celebrating the Swedish tradition of Sankta Lucia on the 10th of December, at 19:30 here at Kelvinside Hillhead. Tickets to the concert are free and can be obtained here.

Sankta Lucia is an integral part of Scandinavian Christmas tradition. With the light of candles, Scandinavians celebrate love, compassion and warmth in the cold and harsh winter months. This is traditionally done with a singing procession and a concert of beautiful Scandinavian choral works.

The international ensemble performing on this evening is formed of the talented students of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland directed by Nils Benedikt Meier. Along with the young and lively ‘Lucia Ensemble’ choir, enjoy an interesting mix of musicians from different backgrounds, creating a lovely musical fusion of cultures.
