Suspension of Sunday Services at KH

Following guidance from the Church of Scotland due to concerns about the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we are sorry to announce that church services are suspended at Kelvinside Hillhead until further notice.

Some other churches may be continuing their worship live streams at this time and details of these can be found here.

We hold all of our elderly and/or vulnerable members of our church family and wider community in our hearts and prayers at this difficult time, as well as those of you who are worried for family and friends. If anyone has any need of pastoral support or has a question please contact our Session Clerk Eileen Bishop (0141 357 7477 / 07766663266)

Arranging a funeral

COVID-19 restrictions affecting funerals

The Church of Scotland has issued guidance on how Scottish Government restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic affect how we can provide services. See here for the full guidance

As of January 2021 we are in Enhanced Level 4 restrictions. The maximum number who may attend a funeral service is 20. Please see the link above for other restrictions to funeral services.

Kelvinside Hillhead Parish Church is a large traditional church building with a quiet ambiance. The spacious, light and quiet sanctuary generates a deep feeling of peace in people who are suffering the loss of a loved one.

In the event of a death in the family, you should first contact an undertaker to make arrangements for the funeral. If you wish to use the Church, you should tell the undertaker – who will then contact the Minister. The detailed arrangements are then made between the undertaker and Minister.

You do not have to be a Church member to use the Church. We will organise an organist and ensure that the Church is ready for the undertaker, family and mourners.

Getting married at Kelvinside Hillhead

COVID-19 restrictions affecting weddings

The Church of Scotland has issued guidance on how Scottish Government restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic affect how we can provide services. See here for the full guidance

As of January 2021 we are in Enhanced Level 4 restrictions with no more than five in attendance at weddings (including the minister and the couple). The link above gives details on how this will change when restrictions are relaxed.

You can be married in our Church even if you are not members of the Church of Scotland or Kelvinside Hillhead Parish Church. If neither the bride nor groom is a member of the Church, the first approach should be to the Minister for advice.

With its beautiful central aisle the church is an ideal setting for a wedding ceremony. However, other options can be explored depending on individual preferences – including a ceremony in a public or private building, e.g. a hotel.

Baptisms and Blessings

COVID-19 restrictions affecting baptisms

The Church of Scotland has issued guidance on how Scottish Government restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic affect how we can provide services. See here for the full guidance

As of January 2021 we are in Enhanced Level 4 restrictions and baptisms can unfortunately not take place. The link above gives details on how this will change when restrictions are relaxed and baptisms can take place again.

Baptism is the appointed way of entry into Christ’s Church.

In the Church of Scotland the sacrament of baptism can be celebrated at any stage of a person’s life.

In baptism, young or old, we are baptised into the love of God, the God who loved us before we loved Him. We baptise infants in the hope and expectation that they be brought up in the Christian Church and family of God.

Usually then our Minister is looking for signs that this is the parent’s intention in the case of a baby/child. If you do wish a child to be baptised, or to be baptised yourself, please contact the ministry team by using the contact form below.

Within the Church of Scotland we can also offer a service of blessing for our children if this your preference. We will be happy to discuss this with you.
