A short service to welcome Christmas from Glasgow Cathedral

Unfortunately, like many churches, our Watchnight Service has had to be cancelled this year. Glasgow Cathedral will have a short service to welcome Christmas available to view on their website tonight.

We wish all our neighbours, friends and the wider community, a peaceful Christmas, particularly thinking of those who may not be able to see their loved ones this year, or who are sick or bereaved.

May the joy of the angels, The gladness of the shepherds, The worship of the wisemen And the peace of the Christ child, be yours this Christmas.

Changes to Christmas Services 2021 at KH

Sadly, due to the current Covid situation,  we have taken the decision to cancel our Christmas Eve Watchnight Service on 24th December.

In addition, the Sunday morning worship services on 26th December (Boxing Day) and 02 January will now be on Zoom, hosted and led by Steven Owens. Joining details will be circulated nearer the time.

These decisions are in line with the recommendations coming from the Scottish Government and the Church of Scotland.

In the meantime we wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas.

TerraCycle recycling

Many of you have taken advantage of the TerraCycle scheme that allows you to recycle your Tassimo coffee pods by dropping them off in the container in the church carpark for collection.

Sadly, Tassimo are no longer going to be taking part in the scheme, however we’re still collecting pods until our final pick up on 14th December 2021 so please do drop off your pods by then if you’re collecting them at home.

There is information on the Tassimo website on how to continue to recycle your pods using their Podback scheme, and where to take your filled pouches.

Terracyle will still recycle a range of other products that would otherwise go to landfill. You can find out more by clicking on the link and, if you send off your shipment using the downloadable Freepost labels by the 15th December 2021, benefit KH at the same time. TerraCycle are offering us a bonus for packages received by the end of the year as a “thank you” for participation in the scheme.

Lucia Ensemble – Sankta Lucia, 10th December 2021 at 7.30pm

Lucia Ensemble warmly invite you to their upcoming concert celebrating the Swedish tradition of Sankta Lucia on the 10th of December, at 19:30 here at Kelvinside Hillhead. Tickets to the concert are free and can be obtained here.

Sankta Lucia is an integral part of Scandinavian Christmas tradition. With the light of candles, Scandinavians celebrate love, compassion and warmth in the cold and harsh winter months. This is traditionally done with a singing procession and a concert of beautiful Scandinavian choral works.

The international ensemble performing on this evening is formed of the talented students of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland directed by Nils Benedikt Meier. Along with the young and lively ‘Lucia Ensemble’ choir, enjoy an interesting mix of musicians from different backgrounds, creating a lovely musical fusion of cultures.
